Amy is leading a one day weaving workshop in MADE in Brighton.
This one day weaving workshop is aimed for beginners who have never woven before and want to give themselves a day to explore the art and for intermediates who have either been to my beginners workshop or have taught themselves and would like to brush up and advance their skills.
Weaving is a very addictive craft. The rhythm one gets into when weaving is a great way to unwind and process the day and thoughts. Woven wall hangings are also a massive trend in the interiors world bringing in textured, tactile textiles on your walls. Not only can they be elegant and bring character to an adult home, they are also a perfect decoration for a baby or child’s room, but be careful they won’t stop stroking it!
In this one day workshop Amy will be teaching you how to make your own woven wall hanging. With the luxury of having a day, you will have time to learn how to dress an intermediate loom, learn beginner techniques of weaving, half hitch and Rya knots, twining and playing with texture. For those who would like, we would then move onto exploring how to weave shapes which is only effective on an intermediate loom. We will also have the option of stopping to buy some lunch at the lovely MADE café, which gives us the opportunity to get to know one another!
This one-day workshop will give you the skills to understand weaving so you can design your own piece and weave it whilst having lots of fun at the same time! You will go home with your hand-woven wall hanging ready to adorn your interior. You will have the option of buying your loom at the end, which comes with Amy’s beginners guide on how to set up and weave!
There will be a range of colours and textured yarns to experiment with so that when you leave you will be more educated as to what yarns to buy, where and how to use them.
Amy is an interior Designer and a Weaver, designing and weaving home and fashion accessories. She is very interested in well-being and how craft affects emotional health positively, slowing down in a fast world.
